ABOUT
Marshall Street School & Job Development Program serves students ages 5 to 21 in a separate public day school that specializes in academic, functional, and vocational learning tailored for youth with special needs. It currently enrolls around 90–94 students and employs a faculty of approximately 65, including support staff and nurses. Beginning at age 18, eligible students receive individualized instruction across core academics (language arts, math, digital literacy) paired with vocational and life-skills training—such as food service, grounds keeping, industrial assembly, building maintenance, and job preparation—to help them earn a Maryland public high school certificate.
From age 18 up to 21, students can participate in the Job Development Program, which offers post‑high school career pathways including community work-based experiences, elective classes in marketing or horticulture, and further training in adaptive art, music, and physical education. Some students may participate in the “Campus Connection” extension at Hagerstown Community College, giving them access to college-based instruction and on-site work opportunities.
This integrated model helps students develop independence, communication skills, and real-world job readiness—all aligned with the school's vision to "Engage, Experience, and Grow Every Day."
